Introduction
English Sentence StructureOne or more than one word together which gives a sense is called Sentence. Sentences are the basic building blocks of any Language, if someone wants to learn any language he must have to learn the Sentence Structure of that language. In Basic English Language the Structure of the Sentence plays very important role. One word on the wrong place can change the meaning of your Sentence. There are many people who don’t know how to write a Sentence, they don’t have Sentence writing skills. For writing Sentences, it is most essential to learn what the suitable places for words are. Today we are going to learn English Sentence Structure.

Basic Sentence Structure
In English Grammar Sentence Structure of a Basic Sentence is:
Subject + Helping Verb (H.V) + Verb + Object + Complement + Adverbial

It is not necessary that all these terms are used in a Sentence; there can be five more parallel Sentence structures from this basic one.

1) Subject + H.V +Verb
Examples:
1) My arms are aching.
2) She is Playing.

2) Subject + H.V +Verb + Object
Examples:
1) I need a rest.
2) You should go to England

3) Subject + H.V + Verb + Complement
Examples:
1) This Piano is Heavy.
2) It was a Big Problem.

4) Subject + H.V + Verb + Adverbial
Examples:
1) It was on my foot.
2) Their house is nearby.

5) Subject + H.V + Verb + Object + Object
Examples:
1) Heavy weight gives me backache.
2) Harry bought Maria a present.

Let’s have a short look on the terms that are used in these five Structures:

1) Subject
The person who is working in the Sentence or the ‘Doer’ in the Sentence is called Subject. Without Subject we are unable to find who is working in the Sentence.

2) Helping Verb (H.V)
It helps a Sentence to complete its Sense. Without Helping Verb a Sentence is incomplete, we can not understand what the Sentence means. Helping words also shows the tenses in English Sentences.

3) Verb
Verb shows the work in the Sentence. No Sentence can complete without Verb. If there is used only one word in a Sentence, it must be the Verb. Just like eat, drink, watch, see, sit, sing etc.

4) Object
The thing that is acted upon by someone or the thing at which the work is done is called Object.

5) Complement
Complement is used to complete the Sense of the Sentence. It emphasizes the quality of the Sentence.

6) Adverbial
Adverbial shows the position of something in the Sentences.

Summary

The Basic Sentence Structure in English:
Subject + Helping Verb (H.V) + Verb + Object + Complement + Adverbial
There can be more five structures from this one:

1) Subject + H.V +Verb
2) Subject + H.V +Verb + Object
3) Subject + H.V + Verb + Complement
4) Subject + H.V + Verb + Adverbial
5) Subject + H.V + Verb + Object + Object
